6 Reasons Ocean View Stables Belongs on Every Bay Area Rider’s Short List
Daly City, United States – July 10, 2026 / Ocean View Stables LLC /
Walk into most riding arenas and you’ll hear the same thing: a trainer telling a horse what to do, a little louder each time it doesn’t. Ocean View Stables is betting the community wants something different.
This week the stable opens its gates on three fronts at once. Leyden Horsemanship — a new lesson and clinic program led by Soft Is Strong author Zachary Leyden, is now enrolling riders of every level. Boarding is officially open to outside horses for the first time. And a string of lease horses is ready for students who want to learn without owning yet. Together, it turns Ocean View Stables into a full-service home for anyone on the coast serious about horses, or just getting started.
What ties the three together is a single idea, and it cuts against how a lot of people are taught to ride. Leyden Horsemanship trains through communication rather than force: reading the horse, asking clearly, applying pressure with intention, and, the part most people skip, rewarding the smallest try. The result is a calmer horse and a steadier rider, on the ground and in the saddle.
“People think a difficult horse needs a firmer hand. Almost always, it needs a clearer one,” said Zachary Leyden, founder of Leyden Horsemanship and author of Soft Is Strong. “When you get clear and consistent, the horse lets its guard down, and the rider does too. That’s the whole game. It’s a calm that has structure to it, and it works just as well for a nervous eight-year-old on a first lesson as it does for a lifelong owner whose horse picked up a habit they can’t fix.”
For riders, the program spans private lessons, small-group sessions, and weekend clinics on the practical work owners actually wrestle with, groundwork and desensitizing, trail and spook confidence, and building a horse that says yes because it wants to. No prior experience is required, and lessons are open to youth and adults alike.
For owners, the newly opened boarding brings the stable’s daily care and facilities to horses across the community, available whether or not the owner ever takes a lesson. And for students who aren’t ready to buy, the lease horses close the oldest gap in the sport: you can’t learn horsemanship without a horse to learn it on. Now there’s one waiting.
Enrollment, boarding, and lease information are all available now. To reserve a lesson, tour the facility, or ask about a stall, contact Ocean View Stables at (415) 969-1223 or tony@oceanviewstables.com.
