Independently tested in Brazil before entering the market

Although StrikePlagiarism is only now officially launching its local operations in Brazil, its technology was independently evaluated in the country several years earlier.

In 2022, Brazilian researcher Marcelo Krokoscz published a comparative study in the academic journal Em Questão. The study evaluated the efficiency of 14 national and international plagiarism detection systems using the same Portuguese-language manuscript.

The systems were tested against several forms of textual reuse and manipulation, including direct reproduction, paraphrasing, translation from English, synonym replacement and the insertion of hidden characters.

StrikePlagiarism achieved an overall efficiency score of 2.77 and ranked second among the 14 systems evaluated. Together with Turnitin, PlagScan and Plagium, it was included in the group of systems demonstrating the highest performance in the study.

One result was especially significant: only three of the 14 systems detected the deliberate use of hidden characters intended to disguise borrowed content. These systems were Turnitin, StrikePlagiarism and PlagScan.

The research also highlighted the limitations of plagiarism detection technology. None of the tested systems consistently identified the original sources of all rewritten, translated or deliberately manipulated fragments.

This conclusion remains highly relevant. Similarity and AI detection systems should support academic decision-making by providing evidence, not replace the professional judgement of educators and academic integrity specialists.

From independent Brazilian research to an official local presence

The 2022 study gives the Brazilian launch additional significance.

StrikePlagiarism was independently tested in Brazil four years before establishing its official local operations in the country.
